  25. I tried to disassemble the NewIcons program, it's pretty obscure. I haven't
  26. had the nerves to step all through the code, but what it basically does is
  27. redirect some icon.library functions to newicon.library (to enable the
  28. tooltype shadowing, palette remapping and other stuff newicons.library adds)
  29. and patch OpenScreenTagList(). I've no idea why the latter one is patched.

  36. No, it doesn't affect backdrops at all AFAIK.
  37. I'd *love* to use NI though, if the darn thing didn't use these stupid
  38. tooltypes and crunched gfx. What I'd prefer would be a completely incompatible
  39. icon system with
  40. - uncrunched gfx or at least an option to disable crunching (my HD is fast
  41. enough and I don't care about a few KB, fast icon loading is more important to
  42. me)
  43. - palettes with remapping or dithering, that one is pretty cool in NI
  44. - an own fileformat to do that in as little memory as possible (*no*
  45. ToolTypes).
  46. I'd have coded such a thing myself but I don't have enough info on what fields
  47. in the DiskObject structure are needed for what type of icon...
